How is your heart?

Sometimes when you look in the mirror, you don’t like what you see. When you look in a magazine, you envy what you see. So you try to erase and hide what you feel by wearing other people's images to make yourself feel worthy and not dirty. You might even wear expensive name brands so that other people will think that you are important. You wear these expensive physical adornments hoping that they will hide your low self-esteem and personal insecurities. You wear another person’s worth and image because deep down inside you don’t know who you are. And when you do know who you are, you are ashamed of it. You will never voice it out loudly “I am ashamed of myself” but deep within the truth lies settled like dirty mud.

These prisons called social normalities put pressure on you. You use your last money to buy that trending item. The masses have you believing that this is the way of life. Democracy is really working against you because it holds so much power over what is trending, and ultimately has power over your life. Why do you care so much about fitting in and being accepted? You have to be courageous enough to grow up and become who you really are; the most authentic version of yourself.

What is this fear tormenting you? Why are you so afraid to be yourself? You don’t want them to criticize you and you don’t want to stand alone. It’s easy to say and do what everybody else is saying and doing so that the longing of acceptance and belonging can be fulfilled. Aren’t you tired of being conditioned to fit in the world’s system?

You were born with a unique identity and purpose. Among the billions of people who exist on earth, there is no one else who looks like you. Isn’t that beautiful? It’s amazing! It’s thrilling! To think that you are so valuable, God made only one of you.

Wearing branded clothing is not a sin or a crime. All I am saying is don’t substitute your authenticity by portraying a false presentation of who you are. Don’t lie about yourself because you are ashamed of your own ideas, thoughts, believes, skin colour, hair texture and background. These are the things that make you an original. These things that you hide contribute to the unique destiny you are meant to fulfil.

When we are ashamed of ourselves, we tend to imitate other people who are perceived as perfection personified, due to a lack of our own identity. Imitating someone to better yourself so that you can add value to your life is okay; when it’s coming from a place of positive-self image and a healthy self esteem it’s acceptable. Imitating someone to erase or cheat the original version of yourself and pollute the true essence of who you are, because of a root of bitterness, self hate and low self esteem... that is not being authentic.

The responsibility of pursing authenticity can’t be left only to specific important people such as presidents or institutions. You need to be the change you want to see in your world. As an individual you need to first work on yourself, and then live your life as an example of what is possible. When you break barriers, you unwittingly give courage to others who have no hope in themselves and their situations to also fight to achieve the impossible. One person can become a ripple effect inspiring other people to also make a change in their lives by living out their authentic purpose on earth. Overcoming social prisons will not happen overnight, but there is hope in knowing that you can still change your perspective and ultimately change your life if you wish to. You have your own choice to make.

It’s a heart issue. How is your heart? Only you know your own heart. No one else knows the heart of the next person. The state of your heart and mind controls your behaviour and actions. Who you are, what you believe and what you regard as valuable control and produce certain actions. Everything you do is a result of what is in your heart and mind.
